Itinerary
Day 1
HUCHUY QOSQO
  • We’ll leave by car from your hotel towards the Sacred Valley. The trip takes about an hour. We begin the trek on a well-marked trail with a gradual uphill through trees and shrubs native to the area. We continue to the first mountain pass located at approximately 4,300 meters (14,100 ft.) stirred by marvelous panoramic views of Piuray Lake and the majestic sacred Salkantay and Veronica mountains in the distance.
  • Our journey continues on a nearly flat trail for about two kilometers until we reach the second pass at 4,318 meters (14,160 ft.) This is the highest point of our trek. From here it’s all downhill towards the northeast. As we descend we’ll see more and more vegetation and in some stretches we’ll walk on well-preserved ancient Inca trails. The trail takes us through an imposing rock canyon next to a river which flows through it. Here you’ll see a great diversity of local flora and fauna. We’ll come to a natural lookout where we enjoy our lunch. 
  • After lunch we arrive at Huchuy Qosqo, an impressive archaeological site that presents good examples of Inca architecture and rough stone work. It stands out due to its elevation and view towards the valley, as well as for the plowed terraces on the mountainsides. Finally, after exploring this archaeological site, we set out on a challenging, steep downhill trail to the village of Lamay in the Sacred Valley. This is the final point of our exhilarating experience.
