Itinerary
Day 1
DAY 1: CUSCO / CACHORA / CHIQUISKA
- We left Cusco and headed north towards Abancay. We leave the city behind and cross Antapampa, with incredible landscapes of the snowy Salkantay and Humantay. As we move away from this area of high meadows, the Pitusiray, Chicón and Verónica appear on the horizon. Once we begin the descent towards Limatambo, we will visit the archaeological zone of Tarawasi (only in the program of 5 days).
- The road continues until we reach the Apurimac River, where we will cross its impressive gorge. Passing the town of Curawasi, we will find the Sayhuite stone and its carved map, which is believed to represent the Inca Empire (only visited in the 5-day program). A small parallel road on a hill leads to the town of Cachora, where we will start the walk of this day.
- Carrying our backpacks for the day, we will walk along the edge of the Capuliyoc mountain, from where we will observe for the first time the Apurímac canyon and the road ahead. We begin our descent and camp near the river at 2450 meters above sea level
