Itinerary
Day 1
Iquitos - Lodge
- From Iquitos: Pick up at any hotel in Iquitos or pick up at the Iquitos Airport prior coordination with the client. To get to the Curuhuinsi Lodge (located three hours from Iquitos) we first go to Nauta by land transportation and then we board a typical boat from the area that will take us directly to the lodge.
- Before arriving at the Lodge, we will make a brief stop where the three most important rivers of Peru meet: the Amazon River, the Marañón River and the Ucayali River. Here we can see the pink dolphins, they are mainly in the Amazon river, so we will have many chances to see them!
- Arrival at the Lodge and lunch (included)
- Canoe ride along the river and around the lakes to get acquainted with the jungle and the area where the lodge is located and to look for birds, monkeys, sloths and other wildlife
- Visit to a Native Community , we will go out to visit a native community. Here we will have the opportunity to learn and observe their way of life on the banks of the Amazon River. We will appreciate their homes, types of construction, schools, churches and we will interact with the inhabitants, learning about their farming and fishing techniques. We will observe their customs and traditions, understanding their natural and austere lifestyle. People in the jungle are very cheerful and welcoming, they like to share their culture with foreigners, especially children, who like to play sports a lot. Many families work making crafts and then sell them. Here we will have the opportunity to buy typical handicrafts from the Peruvian Amazon!
- Then we will go to meet Pablito , the lazy bear. Pablito grew up with the community from a very young age, since then he has never wanted to leave, sometimes he can get lost in the jungle for a few days, but he always returns to the community. He is very affectionate with people, so we can carry him and play with him!
- Finally enjoy the sunset in the jungle from our boat.
- Caiman sighting, we continue our journey deeper into the jungle to observe caimans. Our guide will take us to remote places to find these wild animals. At nightfall, we find a clear sky, we can appreciate the splendid brightness of the moon, as well as the stars and constellations, with luck we can even see a shooting star!
- We return to the lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 2
Jungle Walk, Medicinal Plants and Pink Dolphins
- Walk in the Primary Jungle to Know Medicinal Plants
- During our tour we will learn to identify the diverse flora and fauna, such as the different species of monkeys and giant trees such as the Lupuna (Ceiba Tree). We will learn about the medicinal plants that the locals use to cure illnesses, including the traditional aphrodisiac drinks that are made from the bark and roots of the trees.
- Then, our guide will give us an experiential class on how to survive in the jungle and how to use what nature itself gives us for our benefit, just as a local person would do. Also, let's go find some Tarzan vines to have fun simulating his movements!
- Finally, we will take advantage of the walk to collect some typical foods of the jungle, such as chonta and mushrooms, which we will eat for lunch.
- After lunch take a break in the hammocks.
- After a moment of relaxation , you will go out to see and swim in the Amazon River with the river dolphins. We will go by boat to the Amazon River, where we can bathe and enjoy its fresh water. It is very likely that the pink dolphins are present very close to us, however we must keep our distance without touching them since they are wild animals, let them get close to us, not the other way around!
- Then we make a brief stop on the banks of a tributary river to be able to take a
- mud treatment. We wallow in the mud to be able to absorb the nutrients and minerals that it possesses. Also, we will enjoy other healing benefits: free the body from stress and anxiety, relax the muscles, hydrate the skin and eliminate toxins.
- Finally we will end the day watching the beautiful sunset of the Peruvian Amazon from our boat.
- Night Walk, We will take out our flashlights and walk through the jungle at night looking for anacondas, tarantulas, scorpions, snakes and giant frogs! We will witness the enchanting transformation of the jungle into a dark environment, where nature takes on a different character and nocturnal creatures come to the fore. We will be able to differentiate a completely different range of fauna compared to what is usually found during the day, listening to the magical sounds of insects, birds, felines and owls.
- We return to the Lodge for dinner
Day 3
Bird Watching and Piranha Fishing.
- Bird Watching, we get up early to appreciate the sunrise of the Amazon jungle and observe the different species of birds: Macaws, Toucan, Shansho and Camungo. The view is wonderful, all the birds gather in search of their food.
- Piranha Fishing, we prepare for fishing, in this opportunity we will learn to fish piranhas in the dark tributary rivers of the Amazon. If we are successful, then we can eat the fearful piranhas that we have caught for lunch!
- Our last lunch in the jungle, before leaving for home, the guides will give us a brief talk about the risks that exist today in the Peruvian jungle (eg contamination of the Amazon River) and how we can help reduce these risks.
