Itinerary
Day 1
Huaraz - Llanganuco - Vaqueria - Tuctu 4200m
- We will board the bus to go along the Callejón de Huaylas, on the north side of Huaraz. Passing different traditional Andean villages and making the first stop in Carhuas 2650m. Then we continue with our trip to the ancient city of Yungay, this city was buried by an avalanche that fell from Huascarán in 1970 (the Nuevo Yungay is at 2500m), from here we have to start going up to the Llanganuco valley, where we will find the entrance of the Huascarán National Park to the Llanganuco Valley. We will register and we will be able to see the two lakes of Llanganuco, Chinancocha and Orconcocha.
- Then continue up to Portachuelo Pass (4750m), where we will stop to take pictures of the splendid views of the different peaks: Huascarán, Chopicalqui, Pisco, Huandoy, and others. After that we will start going down to Vaqueria for about 1 hour 20 minutes, where our donkey driver will be waiting for us. Here we will start the trek up to TUCTU for about 5 hours approx until we reach our first camp around 3 or 4:00 pm We will camp overnight at 4200m.
Day 2
Tuctu - Pucajirca Pass 4640m - Quisuar
- Today we will start walking until we reach the Pucaraju Pass (4640m). We will arrive at 11 in the morning, and then zigzag down a nice route surrounded by thatched highlands and many trees. We will arrive at Lake Huegroncocha for lunch.
- Then, after a few minutes walking we will arrive at Quisuar where we will camp on the left side at 3900m.
Day 3
Quisuar - Tupa tupa Pass 4400m- Jancapampa
- We will begin our trekking up a moderate path, enjoying the field of sheep. We will get the Tupatupa pass (4400m) easily, then we will go down by the base of the Pucajirca mountain and then we will arrive at the next camp site of Jancapampa (3600m).
- We will camp overnight.
Day 4
Jancapampa - Remate Pass 4600m - Huillca
- We will start climbing early to get the pass in time (4600m), as we will always be surprised by the most beautiful scenery. After the passage we will descend to the place of the next camp called Huillca where we will camp overnight at 4000m.
Day 5
Huillca - Mesapata Pass 4460m - Tayapampa
- We will walk during the first 2 hours to get the Mesapata (4460m). Then we will have a walk in flat area to the stream of water in the valley of Moyobamba to have lunch, and then we will continue to the base of Paso Caracara where we will camp to 4500m.
Day 6
Tayapampa - Caracara Pass 4800m - Jancarurish - Ruinapampa
- After breakfast in Tayapampa we will start to climb to Caracara (4800m) for approximately 1 hour and a half, where we can enjoy the beautiful views of Alpamayo, Mount Quitaraju. From here we will start descending to Jancarurish for about 1 hour. Arriving here we will have lunch.
- After we continue to the Pampa Ruin, along this valley we can see the west face of the Alpamayo. After getting off for 2 hours we will arrive to Ruinapampa where we will appreciate the inka - Terrazes. We will camp overnight at 4025m.
Day 7
Ruinapampa - Jatunvientona Pass 4750m - Osoruri
- After breakfast in Ruinapampa we will start climbing "zig zag" to Jatun Viena (4750m) for approximately 4 hours, where we will enjoy the beautiful views of Santa Cruz and Milluaraju mount. After that we will go down to Osoruri for about 40 minutes, we will arrive around 1:00 pm for lunch.
- Afternoon free to take pictures, dinner and during the night we will camp at 4560m.
Day 8
Osoruri - Cullicocha Pass 4850m - Calamine
- After breakfast we will walk for about an hour to get the Jatunvientona pass (4860m). Then we will go down a few meters down and we will be surprised by a nice place, the beautiful blue lake of Cuicocha. At the base of Santa Cruz, we will get the lake shore for lunch.
- Then, after a break at lunch time we will continue descending to the camp site of Calamina, from this camp place we will appreciate a beautiful sunset over the Black Mountain in front of us. During the night, we will camp at 3650m.
Day 9
Calamine - Hualcayan
- Today in our last day of excursion, we will arrive first to the small town of Hualcayan where we will find very basic store and the control of entrance to the National Park.
Day 10
Hualcayan- Huaraz
- After a few minutes of walking we will have lunch. We will continue to Huaraz, arriving at 3 or 4 pm approx. and transfer to hotel - Huaraz.

- Pick up from the hotel and transfer to the bus station on the last day.
